iso2mkv is software for automated DVD to XviD/vorbis MKV video conversion.
Gives almost total control on the process of video compression at maximum
quality, while being simple and straightforward to use (a kind of
'life-hack'). The intended audience is advanced end-users and the script is
not user-error-proof.
Based on mplayer, mencoder, oggenc or lame, and mkvmerge (if not properly
installed, won't work). This is only a shell script that wraps the other
programs. If you can watch the DVD with MPlayer, you can compress it with
iso2mkv. Other used programs (hopefully included in most GNU/Linux
distributions as well a FreeBSD :) ) are basename, bc, nice, stat.
Open Broadcaster Software is free and open source software
for video recording and live streaming.
tcmplex-pantelje, audio video multiplexer from the transcode distribution,
re-writen for 8 audio channels. This version fixes an AC3 bug and supports
files > 2GB.
libdca is a free library for decoding DTS Coherent Acoustics streams.
libdca is still in early development stage so don't expect too much from it.
[From the README:]
this is a small channel scan tool for vdr which generates ATSC, DVB-C,
DVB-S/S2 and DVB-T channels.conf files.
It's 50% "scan" from linuxtv-dvb-apps-1.1.0, the differences are:
- no initial tuning data needed, because scanning without this data is exactly
what a scan tool like this should do
- it detects automatically which DVB/ATSC card to use.
The Quasar DV codec (libdv) is a software codec for DV video, the
encoding format used by most digital camcorders, typically those
that support the IEEE 1394 (a.k.a. FireWire or i.Link) interface.
Libdv was developed according to the official standards for DV
video: IEC 61834 and SMPTE 314M.
Please note that this software is only concerned with the DV video
compression format, which is different from capturing the data from
a camcorder.
abby is a front-end for cclive and clive utilities that can
be used to download videos from Youtube and similar video
websites.
The Aegisub Project is a community-driven effort to write the BSDL licensed
cross-platform subtitle editor Aegisub. Composed completely of volunteers
passionate about subtitling, as a project it strives to be open, fair and
most of all: free.

libmovtar
---------
has been implemented according to the quicktime4linux API
It supports reading and writing (read/write mode has been prepared,
but is not implemented yet) of MJPEG video in YUV 4:2:2 JPEG with
mono/stereo, 8/16-bit, any sample rate sound.
It supports indexing files (always done when writing a new file,
old (or manually created) movtar files without index are indexed
internally during the opening process).
You can freely jump forwards and backwards between the frames in
an opened file.
Libmpeg3 supports advanced editing and manipulation of MPEG streams.
Libmpeg3 provides a uniform front end for a large number of the MPEG
formats used in HDTV broadcasting.
It decodes:
* MPEG-1 Layer II Audio
* MPEG-1 Layer III Audio
* MPEG-2 Layer III Audio
* MPEG-1 program streams
* MPEG-2 program streams
* MPEG-2 transport streams
* AC3 Audio
* MPEG-2 Video
* MPEG-1 Video
* IFO files
* VOB files
