This distribution contains a library to access GSM mobile phones through GSM
modems. Features include:
- modification of phonebooks stored in the mobile phone or on the SIM card
- reading and writing of SMS messages stored in the mobile phone
- sending and reception of SMS messages
Additionally, some simple command line programs are provided to use these
functionalities.
HCIdump reads raw HCI data coming from and going to a Bluetooth device and
prints commands, events, and data in a human-readable form.
Optionally, the dump can be written to a file rather than parsed, so that
dump file can be parsed later.
SDR-J (formerly Jsdr) is a suite of four programs provided under a
LGPL open source license for playing around with sdr (software
defined radio). The software can be used directly with the PM-SDR
kit and RTL2832U based dongles, and in the 32 bits Windows version
with other kits as well.
The suite contains four programs:
- a full blown "short wave" receiver, which provides tuning in the
range of 100K .. 165M using the PM-SDR (although above 55 M with
reduced performance) and from app 55 MHz to app 900 Mhz or above
using an RTL2832U based dongle. The receiver provides quite a number
of decoders for amateur modes.
- am/fm receiver covering the same frequency bands as the sw receiver,
however, with am bandwidths selectable, with fm mono and stereo
decoding as well as with rds decoding.
- spectrum viewer for use with the RTL2832U based dongles, showing
spectra of up to 3 Mhz bandwidth.
- mini receiver, a stripped version of the fm receiver, a gadget
for listening to WFM using DAB sticks.
LIRC is a package that allows you to decode and send infra-red signals
of many (but not all) commonly used remote controls.
The most important part of LIRC is the lircd daemon that will decode
IR signals received by the device drivers and provide the information
on a socket. It will also accept commands for IR signals to be sent if
the hardware supports this. The second daemon program called lircmd
will connect to lircd and translate the decoded IR signals to mouse
movements. You can e.g. configure X to use your remote control as an
input device.
The user space applications will allow you to control your computer
with your remote control. You can send X events to applications, start
programs and much more on just one button press. The possible
applications are obvious: Infra-red mouse, remote control for your TV
tuner card or CD-ROM, shutdown by remote, program your VCR and/or
satellite tuner with your computer, etc.
Nokryptia is a program to convert music files like MP3 to work on a Nokia 5510
cell phone. The utility also does not do any encryption, it uses in fact a bug
in the encryption algorithm. Therefore, no actual encryption is done, which
makes the program very fast in comparison to the official software from Nokia.
o2sms is a program to send SMS messages using the websites of Irish mobile
operators. Despite its name, it supports all three major Irish operators - o2
Ireland, Vodafone Ireland and Meteor Ireland.
The program works by simulating a web browser's interaction with those
websites. In essence, the program is really just a stripped-down specialised
browser.
At the time of writing, o2 web accounts have 250 free web texts per month,
Vodafone 300 and Meteor 300. After sending a message, o2sms will tell you how
many you have remaining.
As its name suggests, picocom is a minimal dumb-terminal emulation pro-
gram. It is, in principle, very much like minicom(1) , only it's "pico"
instead of "mini"! It was designed to serve as a simple, manual, modem
configuration, testing, and debugging tool. It has also served (quite
well) as a low-tech "terminal-window" to allow operator intervention in
PPP connection scripts (something like the ms-windows "open terminal
window before / after dialing" feature). It could also prove useful in
many other similar tasks.
Seyon is a complete full-featured telecommunications package for
the X Window System. Its features include:
- Dialing directory that supports an unlimited number of entries.
- Terminal emulation window using any terminal emulation program
that supports X. This defaults to xterm.
- Script language to automate tedious tasks such as logging into
remote hosts.
- Unlimited number of slots for external file transfer protocols.
- Support for zmodem auto-download.
- Translation modes. Seyon can perform useful translations on the
user's input.
- Interactive setting of program parameters.
- On-line help.
- Modem speeds up to 115200 bps.
- Software (XON/XOFF) and hardware (RTS/CTS) flow control.
- Session capture to a file.
- Temporary running of a local shell in the terminal emulation window.
Seyon is intended to be both simple and extensively configurable.
Almost every aspect of Seyon can be configured via the resources
to suit the user's taste.
Spandsp is a DSP library for telephony and fax functions. It
basically, also implements a complete software fax machine to
send and, or receive messages.
Sredird is a serial port redirector that is compliant with the RFC 2217
"Telnet Com Port Control Option" protocol. This protocol lets you share
a serial port through the network. The only known RFC 2217 aware client
is DialOut/IP V2, which is a Windows 95/98/NT client. For more
information on it look at www.tacticalsoftware.com. Anyone interested in
writing a client and who may need help with the RFC 2217 protocol could
contact author of sredird. Information on RFC 2217 and the Telnet Protocol
is available at www.ietf.org.
