LAME plugin for libquicktime
HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video
transcoder with rich selection of features. Both GUI and command-line only
versions are available.
Supported sources:
* Most common multimedia files that libavformat and libavcodec support
* Any DVD or Bluray-like source which is NOT copy-protected (removal of
copy protection is not supported)
Outputs:
* File (container) format: MP4 (M4V) and MKV
* Video: H.264 (x264), MPEG-2/MPEG-4 (ffmpeg), or Theora (libtheora)
* Audio: AAC, CoreAudio AAC/HE-AAC (OS X only), MP3, FLAC, AC3, or Vorbis;
AC-3, DTS, DTS-HD, AAC, and MP3 pass-through
HandBrake also includes support for chapters, subtitles, advanced video
filters, and more. It is also useful for making videos compatible with
portable video devices such as the Apple iPod/iPhone.
A multimedia server for KiSS/Linksys media players that enables the player to
browse through and play stored files in a wide range of video, audio and image
formats.
kissdx is a PC-Link clone based for the most part on kissd (which it now
replaces), with added features for media playback, management, flexibility and
more.
xine is a free multimedia player. It plays back CDs, DVDs, and VCDs.
It also decodes multimedia files like AVI, MOV, WMV, and MP3 from local disk
drives, and displays multimedia streamed over the Internet. It interprets many
of the most common multimedia formats available.

Pymp is a lean, flexible frontend to MPlayer written in Python.
It supports simple playlists, web streams, and anything else that MPlayer does.
Pymp aims to blend in with your desktop environment, not stand out as many
skinned players do.
This kld adds DVB ioctl handling to the Linux compatibility layer
so that Linux apps can talk to DVB/ATSC tuners via /dev/dvb/adapterX.
Note this port does not contain actual DVB drivers, those are
provided by e.g. the multimedia/webcamd port.

Requantize MPEG-2 streams without recompressing. M2VRequantiser
accepts raw MPEG2 video data (not VOB) from standard input and
writes the recompressed frames to standard output.
Usage is :
M2VRequantiser recompression_factor inputM2Vsize <input.m2v >output.m2v
mmsclient allows you to download Internet streams through Microsoft's MMS
protocol, e.g. CNN video and similar. Downloaded stream can be watched and
listened with any software that understands Microsoft Media format, like
Xine with mms-plugin.
MMS is a program designed to allow you to download streams using
the MMS protocol and save them to your computer, as opposed to
watching them live. Similar functionality is available in full
media player suites such as Xine and MPlayer, but MiMMS is quick
and easy to use, and for the time being, remains a useful program.
