Bvi stands for "Binary VIsual editor". Bvi is a screen-oriented
editor for binary files; its command set is based on that of the
vi(1) text editor. As a binary editor does not have the concept
of "lines", there are differences from vi commands wherever the
latter are line oriented.
GNOME2 visual XML editor with emphasis on DocBook editing
Conglomerate is a free, user-friendly XML editor, aimed at providing
a comfortable DocBook editor for the masses that's nicely integrated
into GNOME.
Conglomerate is still fairly unstable when doing editing work,
and will crash from time to time. However, it is becoming usable
for viewing DocBook and other XML formats, for creating new documents,
and making simple changes to existing documents.
Simple ncurses-based pico-style hex editor
SHED (Simple Hex EDitor) is a hex editor written for Unix-like systems using
ncurses, with a friendly pico-style interface. It shows data in ASCII, hex,
dec, oct and binary, and allows editing in all of these bases. Its features
also include searching and dumping.
Windows XP (TM) enhanced Notepad clone written in Tcl/Tk
Apart from all the features Notepad has, tpad adds
plugins to invoke some common text utilities without
leaving the editor, an Ascii table, a tip database
and support for regexps. It also is fully configurable.
The executable `tpad' is a wish(1) shell script.
Use the Emacsclient as the DITOR of child processes
The library with-editor makes it easy to use the Emacsclient as the
$EDITOR of child processes, making sure they know how to call
home. For remote processes a substitute is provided, which
communicates with Emacs on standard output instead of using a socket
as the Emacsclient does.
Text-based front end for Dynamips development version
Dynagen is a front-end for use with the Dynamips Cisco router
emulator. It uses an INI-like configuration file to provision
Dynamips emulator networks. It takes care of specifying the right
port adapters, generating and matching up those pesky NIO descriptors,
specifying bridges, frame-relay, ATM switches, etc. It also provides
a management CLI for listing devices, suspending and reloading
instances, etc.
Collection of tools for manipulating MS-DOS files
Mtools is a collection of utilities for accessing MS-DOS disks from Unix without
mounting them. It supports Win95 style long file names, OS/2 Xdf disks, ZIP/JAZ
disks, and 2m disks (store up to 1992k on a high density 3 1/2" disk).
Command-line utilities for reading Veritas Filesystem (VxFS)
This package allows you to read files from Veritas Journaled Filesystem.
Current version seems to support versions 2 and 4 (and 3, but this version
was never released, AFAIK). I don't plan a write version, because I don't
know journal log structure and I have *no* time to play with it. But I plan
a Linux kernel implementation.
