ised is a command-line tool for generating number sequences and
arithmetic evaluation. Unlike big gui-based software (e.g. Mathematica,
Derive, Matlab, Octave,...) it is intended for use in shell scripting,
together with gnu core utilities.
Its main advantage is that all functions are generalized to operate
on one-dimensional arrays. It can be used for loop indexing (much
like seq), line-by-line arithmetic processing of files, floating
point math for shells that don't support it natively, or interactively,
as extended calculator.
Lybniz is an easy to use mathematical function graph plotter
using pyGTK.
Armadillo is a C++ linear algebra library (matrix maths) aiming towards
a good balance between speed and ease of use. The syntax is deliberately
similar to Matlab.
Integer, floating point and complex numbers are supported, as well as a
subset of trigonometric and statistics functions. Various matrix
decompositions are provided through optional integration with LAPACK, or
one of its high performance drop-in replacements (such as the
multi-threaded MKL or ACML libraries).
A delayed evaluation approach is employed (at compile-time) to combine
several operations into one and reduce (or eliminate) the need for
temporaries. This is accomplished through recursive templates and
template meta-programming.
Useful for conversion of research code into production environments, or
if C++ has been decided as the language of choice, due to speed and/or
integration capabilities.
Qalculate! is a multi-purpose desktop calculator. It is small and simple to
use but with much power and versatility underneath. Features include
customizable functions, units, arbitrary precision, plotting, and
a user-friendly interface.
LibTomMath provides highly optimized and portable routines for a vast
majority of integer based number theoretic applications (including
public key cryptography).
NTL is an object oriented library for number theory, written
by Victor Shoup. It provides objects and methods for
- arbitrary length integers
- finite fields
- polynomials over fields
- extensions of fields.
- vectors and matrices over extensions
- finite rings
Unless you define WITHOUT_GMP, NTL requires libgmp4.

This baseport provides the basic directory structure, and installs a script
"load-octave-pkg", that synchronizes the FreeBSD ports structure to the octave
packaging system.
Another purpose of the script "load-octave-pkg" is to attempt to correct any
errors created by the octave packaging system.
