Conglomerate is a free, user-friendly XML editor, aimed at providing a comfortable DocBook editor for the masses that's nicely integrated into GNOME. Conglomerate is still fairly unstable when doing editing work, and will crash from time to time. However, it is becoming usable for viewing DocBook and other XML formats, for creating new documents, and making simple changes to existing documents.

dhex is a more than just another hex editor: It includes a diff mode, which can be used to easily and conveniently compare two binary files. Since it is based on ncurses and is themeable, it can run on any number of systems and scenarios. With its utilization of search logs, it is possible to track changes in different iterations of files easily.

Hexedit view and edit files in hexadecimal or in ASCII. hexedit shows a file both in ASCII and in hexadecimal. The file can be a device as the file is not whole read. You can modify the file and search through it. You have also copy&paste, and save to file functions. Modifications are shown in bold.

SHED (Simple Hex EDitor) is a hex editor written for Unix-like systems using ncurses, with a friendly pico-style interface. It shows data in ASCII, hex, dec, oct and binary, and allows editing in all of these bases. Its features also include searching and dumping.

Apart from all the features Notepad has, tpad adds plugins to invoke some common text utilities without leaving the editor, an Ascii table, a tip database and support for regexps. It also is fully configurable. The executable `tpad' is a wish(1) shell script.

Tweak is a hex editor. It allows you to edit a file at very low level, letting you see the full and exact binary contents of the file. It can be useful for modifying binary files such as executables, editing disk or CD images, debugging programs that generate binary file formats incorrectly, and many other things.

The library with-editor makes it easy to use the Emacsclient as the $EDITOR of child processes, making sure they know how to call home. For remote processes a substitute is provided, which communicates with Emacs on standard output instead of using a socket as the Emacsclient does.

SciTE is a SCIntilla based Text Editor. Originally built to demonstrate Scintilla, it has grown to be a generally useful editor with facilities for building and running programs. It is best used for jobs with simple configurations - I use it for building test and demonstration programs as well as SciTE and Scintilla, themselves.

Dynagen is a front-end for use with the Dynamips Cisco router emulator. It uses an INI-like configuration file to provision Dynamips emulator networks. It takes care of specifying the right port adapters, generating and matching up those pesky NIO descriptors, specifying bridges, frame-relay, ATM switches, etc. It also provides a management CLI for listing devices, suspending and reloading instances, etc.
