XWinWrap is a small utility written a loooong time ago that allowed you to stick most of the apps to your desktop background. What this meant was you could use an animated screensaver (like glmatrix, electric sheep, etc) or even a movie, and use it as your wallpaper.

grabc is s simple but very useful program to determine the color string in hex (or RGB components) by clicking on a pixel on the screen. While web browsing, lots of time you find a nice color and wonder what color is that! Well just use grabc! When this program is run, the mouse pointer is grabbed and changed to a cross hair and when the mouse is clicked, the color of the clicked pixel is written to stdout in hex prefixed with #. It will the R, G, B component also in the stderr.

Gromit (GRaphics Over MIscellaneous Things) is a small tool to make annotations on the screen. When making presentations of the Gimp I found myself often moving the mousepointer around the point of interest until hopefully everybody noticed it. This annoyed me, since it is a very vague way to highlight something. I dreamt of a small programm which allows me to simply draw on the screen, ignoring any window-borders.

Whisker Menu is an alternate application launcher for the Xfce Desktop.

This LaTeX package extends the capabilities of TeX/LaTeX to generate the arabic writing from an ASCII transliteration for texts in several languages using the arabic script. Several other common encodings are also supported.

Nightfall is an astronomy application for fun, education, and science. It can produce animated views of eclipsing binary stars, calculate synthetic lightcurves and radial velocity curves, and eventually determine the best-fit model for a given set of observational data of an eclipsing binary star system. It is, however, not able to fry your breakfast egg on your harddisk. ;-)

This is a WindowMaker dockapp that displays a graphical representation of the phase of the moon, plus additional astronomical data such as rise/set times, orbital data, orbital elements, etc (if you click on the image multiple times). Probably most of the data is not that useful, but what the heck :)

Audio file utility programs and a library of routines for audio files. Audio File Utility Programs: InfoAudio - display information about an audio file. CompAudio - compare audio files, producing statistics and signal-to-noise ratio figures. CopyAudio - copy audio files. This program combines samples from input audio files (an arbitrary linear combination) and writes them to the output file in a user selectable format. One application is to provide format conversion for an audio file; another is to combine samples from multi-channel files. ResampAudio - resample data from an audio file. The Thunar Media Tags Plugin (thunar-media-tags-plugin) adds special features for media files to the Thunar File Manager. Currently, these are: * a so-called bulk renamer, which allows users to rename multiple audio files at once, based on their tags (e.g. ID3 or OGG/Vorbis), * a special media file page for the file properties dialog, which displays detailed information about quality, length etc., * and finally, an audio tag editor which is reachable from both, renamer and the properties page.
