Pithos is a Pandora client for the GNOME Desktop. The official
Flash-based client is a CPU hog, and Pianobar is a great
reverse-engineered implementation, but is command-line only. Neither
integrate with the desktop very well, missing things like media key
support and song notifications.
playmidi is a small, quick midi file player using the level two sequencer
of the voxware 3.0 package to play on general midi devices or FM or
Gravis Ultrasound. If no files are specified, playmidi will give a short
summary of usage options. If more than one file is specified, you may
skip to the next file while the current one is playing by pressing your
interrupt (usually control-c) key. If you invoke playmidi while it is al-
ready running, it will allow you to control the currently running invoca-
tion until its death, after which time all waiting invocations fight to
go first.
Practical Music Search is an open source ncurses client for Music
Player Daemon, written in C++. The target audience are power users who
need an MPD client that is highly configurable and accessible. PMS
features a simple but powerful interface similar to Vim, and runs on
(at least) Linux and Mac OS X.
Pocket Sphinx is a frontend to the sphinxbase large-vocabulary,
speaker-independent, continuous speech recognition engine.
This is an early release of a research system. The APIs and function
names are likely to change, and several tools still need to be made
available to make this all complete.
Once the system is built, try running the Perl script sphinx2-demo.
The pocketsphinx-test script should run pocketsphinx-batch over an example
utterance of "go forward ten meters."
Praat (the Dutch word for "talk") is a free scientific computer software
package for the analysis of speech in phonetics.
