Perl extension to handle many kinds of Japanese characters
This module provides methods to convert different written forms of Japanese into one another. It enables conversion between romanized Japanese, hiragana, and katakana. It also includes a number of unusual encodings such as Japanese braille and morse code, as well as conversions between Japanese and Cyrillic and Hangul. It also handles conversion between the Chinese characters (kanji) used before and after the character reforms of 1949, as well as the various bracketed and circled forms of kana and kanji.

Application to aid in the translation of .strings files
Localize is an application to aid in the translation of .strings files. .strings files must be distributed in ASCII encoding, which generally isn't a convenient encoding to do translation in. As an example, its rather difficult to enter Chinese characters into an ASCII encoded text file. Localize will, with any luck, help out with this. Currently its just a shell of an application, but sometime in the future I hope to complete it. LICENSE: GPL2 or later

Simple n-gram (bi-gram) fulltext parser plugin for MySQL
MySQL has fulltext index search ability for text field, but it is word based index: it cannot be used for no word delimiter language like Japanese or Chinese. It also can't search characters in the middle of a word (e.g. searching 'in' will not match word 'ping'). Starting from MySQL 5.1, MySQL supports a plugin that allows to change server components (fulltext search parser) without restarting and/or recompiling the server. This n-gram parser uses this plugin interface to implement a simple n-gram (bi-gram) fulltext index parser which can be used for languages without word delimiters.

KDE viewer for CHM files
KchmViewer is a chm (MS HTML help file format) viewer. Unlike most existing CHM viewers for Unix, it uses Trolltech's Qt widget library, and does not depend on KDE or Gnome. However, it may be compiled with full KDE support, including KDE widgets and KIO/KHTML. The main advantage of KchmViewer is non-english language support. Unlike others, KchmViewer in most cases correctly detects help file encoding, correctly shows tables of context of russian, korean, chinese and japanese help files, and correctly searches in non-english help files.

Go Board game
Kigo is an open-source implementation of the popular Go game. Go is a strategic board game for two players. It is also known as igo (Japanese), weiqi or wei ch'i (Chinese) or baduk (Korean). Go is noted for being rich in strategic complexity despite its simple rules. The game is played by two players who alternately place black and white stones (playing pieces, now usually made of glass or plastic) on the vacant intersections of a grid of 19x19 lines (9x9 or 13x13 for easier games).

Pager (like less) which has support for windows and binary files
most is a pager (like less) that displays, one windowful at a time, the contents of a file on a terminal. It pauses after each windowful and prints the following on the window status line: the screen, the file name, current line number, and the percentage of the file so far displayed. In addition to displaying ordinary text files, most can also display binary files as well as files with arbitrary ascii characters. As an option, autosensing of binary files can be disabled (via the -k option), thereby allowing one to browse files encoded in a different language (Japanese, Korean, Chinese, etc). Line wrapping module
Text::WrapI18N intends to be a better Text::Wrap module. This module is needed to support multibyte character encodings such as UTF-8, EUC-JP, EUC-KR, GB2312, and Big5. This module also supports characters with irregular widths, such as combining characters (which occupy zero columns on terminal, like diacritical marks in UTF-8) and fullwidth characters (which occupy two columns on terminal, like most of east Asian characters). Also, minimal handling of languages which doesn't use whitespaces between words (like Chinese and Japanese) is supported. Like Text::Wrap, hyphenation and "kinsoku" processing are not supported, to keep simplicity.

Perl class that converts strings to/from 2-byte Unicode UCS2 format
This module converts strings from and to 2-byte Unicode UCS2 format. All mappings happen via 2 byte UTF16 encodings, not via 1 byte UTF8 encoding. To convert between UTF8 and UTF16 use Unicode::String. For historical reasons this module coexists with Unicode::Map8. Please use Unicode::Map8 unless you need to care for >1 byte character sets, e.g. chinese GB2312. Anyway, if you stick to the basic functionality (see documentation) you can use both modules equivalently. Practically this module will disappear from earth sooner or later as Unicode mapping support needs somehow to get into perl's core. If you like to work on this field please don't hesitate contacting Gisle Aas and check out the mailing list perl-unicode!
