Dnsmasq is a lightweight, easy to configure DNS forwarder and DHCP server. It
is designed to provide DNS and, optionally, DHCP, to a small network. It can
serve the names of local machines which are not in the global DNS. The DHCP
server integrates with the DNS server and allows machines with DHCP-allocated
addresses to appear in the DNS with names configured either in each host or in
a central configuration file. Dnsmasq supports static and dynamic DHCP leases
and BOOTP/TFTP/PXE for network booting of diskless machines.
Dnsmasq is targeted at home networks using NAT and connected to the internet
via a modem, cable-modem or ADSL connection but would be a good choice for any
smallish network (up to 1000 clients is known to work) where low resource use
and ease of configuration are important. -- Simon Kelley
tpop3d is yet-another-pop3-server. The intention has been to write
a server which is fast, extensible, and secure. tpop3d supports
traditional (BSD-format) mailspools and Maildir. It also supports
MySQL, perl, and external authentication methods.
The RPC::XML package is an implementation of XML-RPC. The module
provides classes for sample client and server implementations, a
server designed as an Apache location-handler, and a suite of
data-manipulation classes that are used by them.
ucspi-tcp is a set of command-line tools for building TCP-based
client/server applications. They are compliant to UCSPI, the
UNIX Client-Server Program Interface. UCSPI tools are available
for several different types of networks.
dircproxy is an IRC proxy server designed for people who use IRC
from lots of different workstations or clients, but wish to remain
connected and see what they missed while they were away. You connect
to IRC through dircproxy, and it keeps you connected to the server,
even after you detach your client from it. While you're detached,
it logs channel and private messages as well as important events,
and when you re-attach it'll let you know what you missed.
This can be used to give you roughly the same functionality as
using ircII and screen together, except you can use whatever IRC
client you like, including X ones!
dircproxy has a whole host of features. Please read the file README in
the source distribution for a list.
XMLRPC::Lite is a collection of Perl modules which provides a simple interface
to the XML-RPC Protocol (XML-RPC) both on client and server side. Based on
SOAP::Lite module, it gives you access to all features and transports
available in that module.
This module provides perl routines that simplify a sockets connection
to and an IMAP conversation with an IMAP server
Authen::Smb allows you to authenticate users against an NT server. See
Smb.pm POD documentation for details.
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various
audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, and
more) as well as DVD's, VCD's, and various streaming protocols. It
can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in
IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network. VLC also has the ability
to transcode media on-the-fly for streaming or saving to disk.
Zabbix is an enterprise-class open source distributed monitoring
solution.
Zabbix is software that monitors numerous parameters of a network and
the health and integrity of servers. Zabbix uses a flexible
notification mechanism that allows users to configure e-mail based
alerts for virtually any event. This allows a fast reaction to server
problems. Zabbix offers excellent reporting and data visualisation
features based on the stored data. This makes Zabbix ideal for
capacity planning.
