Software implementation of the OpenAL specification
OpenAL Soft is a software implementation of the OpenAL 3D audio API and an alternative to the somewhat outdated reference implementation. As stated on the website, OpenAL provides capabilities for playing audio in a virtual 3d environment. Distance attenuation, doppler shift, and directional sound emitters are among the features handled by the API. More advanced effects, including air absorption, low-pass filters, and reverb, are available through the EFX extension. It also facilitates streaming audio, multi-channel buffers, and audio capture.

Pd library of clones of Max/MSP 4.5 objects
Cyclone is a library of PureData classes, bringing some level of compatibility between Max/MSP and Pd environments. The original goal of cyclone was to create a collection of Max/MSP objects for PureData. This was in the 2000s area, Max/MSP version 4.6. Since then MAX evolved its architecture and file format to something that is incompatible with PureData. Compatibility in patch file level is limited to this very old version of Max/MSP.

Multiple Streaming Engine
MuSE is an application for the mixing, encoding, and network streaming of sound. MuSE can simultaneously mix up to 6 encoded audio bitstreams (from files or network) plus a sound card input signal. The resulting stream can be played locally on the sound card and/or encoded as an mp3 bitstream sent to a broadcast server. MuSE offers an intuitive interface to be operated realtime and can run in "slick" mode from command line.

MOD/S3M/MTM tracker that does its own DSP, uses VoxWare v2.90+
NSPmod is a MOD (Protracker module and some of its extensions) / S3M (Scream Tracker 3 module) / MTM (Multitracker module) music player. This program uses a technology called No Signal Processor (NSP), which enables your PC play MODs without DSP such as Gravis UltraSound (GUS) GF1. This program requires VoxWare v2.90 compatible 8bit DAC device. I, John-Mark Gurney, have added support for output in 16bits. The volume level is slightly less than the 8bit version though.

Speech recognition system
Pocket Sphinx is a frontend to the sphinxbase large-vocabulary, speaker-independent, continuous speech recognition engine. This is an early release of a research system. The APIs and function names are likely to change, and several tools still need to be made available to make this all complete. Once the system is built, try running the Perl script sphinx2-demo. The pocketsphinx-test script should run pocketsphinx-batch over an example utterance of "go forward ten meters."

Dockapp to display album covers for XMMS
WMalbum is a dock applet that displays album covers for songs being played by XMMS. You must already have images of the album covers stored near the file being played. WMAlbum provides a handy circular menu for play/skip/etc, and can replace wmxmms. Although dock applets are designed for the WindowMaker window manager, they also work in other window managers including openbox and blackbox.
