Ubiquitous network traffic capture library
libpcap is a ubiquitous network traffic capture library used by a wide variety of BSD, Linux and UN*X applications. Whilst FreeBSD has a vendor branch import of libpcap in its source tree, the purpose of the port is to provide a means of offering additional, bleeding-edge features which might not make it into the tree.

Dict protocol (RFC 2229) server
The DICT Protocol, described in RFC 2229 is a TCP transaction based query/response protocol that allows a client to access dictionary definitions from a set of natural language dictionary databases. While RFC 2229 is a finished document, we plan to clarify and enhance the protocol definition as we gain more experience with large dictionary database servers. By default, the DICT protocol uses TCP port 2628.

Simulate virtual network hosts (honeypots)
Honeyd is a small daemon that creates virtual hosts on a network. The hosts can be configured to run arbitrary services, and their TCP personality can be adapted so that they appear to be running certain versions of operating systems. Honeyd enables a single host to claim multiple addresses - I have tested up to 65536 - on a LAN for network simulation.
