iODBC (intrinsic Open Database Connectivity) is an ODBC driver manager that
is compatible with the ODBC 2.x and 3.x specifications. It performs the
standard tasks of a driver manager, i.e. driver loading, parameter and
function sequence checking, driver function invocation, etc.
Applications linked with the iODBC driver manager will be able - through ODBC
function calls - to access simultaneously different types of data sources
within one process through suitable ODBC drivers.
iODBC is freely redistributable under either the GNU Library General Public
Licence (LGPL) or the BSD licence.
appdirs is small Python module for determining appropriate platform-specific
dirs, e.g. a "user data dir". Those are typically platform-specific, for
instance, if running on Mac OS X, you should use:
~/Library/Application Support/<AppName>
On Linux (and other Unices) the dir, according to the XDG spec, is:
~/.local/share/<AppName>
appdirs will help the application to choose an appropriate:
- user data dir (user_data_dir)
- user config dir (user_config_dir)
- user cache dir (user_cache_dir)
- site data dir (site_data_dir)
- site config dir (site_config_dir)
- user log dir (user_log_dir)
LibThai is a set of Thai language support routines aimed to ease developers'
tasks to incorporate Thai language support in their applications.
It includes important Thai-specific functions e.g. word breaking, input and
output methods as well as basic character and string supports. LibThai is
an Open Source and collaborative effort initiated by Thai Linux Working
Group and opened for all contributors.
LibThai includes Thai language support routines:
- Thai character set support: TIS 620, ISO/IEC 10646
- Thai character properties
- Thai string manipulators
- Thai string collation
- Thai word breaking
- Thai input method
- Thai output method
BIND version 9 is a major rewrite of nearly all aspects of the underlying BIND
architecture. Some of the important features of BIND 9 are:
DNS Security: DNSSEC (signed zones), TSIG (signed DNS requests)
IP version 6: Answers DNS queries on IPv6 sockets, IPv6 resource records (AAAA)
Experimental IPv6 Resolver Library
DNS Protocol Enhancements: IXFR, DDNS, Notify, EDNS0
Improved standards conformance
Views: One server process can provide multiple "views" of the DNS namespace,
e.g. an "inside" view to certain clients, and an "outside" view to others.
Multiprocessor Support
See the CHANGES file for more information on new features.

ImPress is the WYSIWYG Publishing and Presentation for UNIX.
It can also be used within a WWW browser (e.g. Netscape) that is
capable of running the Tcl Plugin. The Tcl Plugin can be obtained from
the web site at: http://dev.scriptics.com/
ImPress can be significantly enhanced through use of several modified utilities:
o Pstoedit - Allows you to translate EPS files to Tk for ImPress use.
o Font3D - Translates TrueType font strings to vectorized Tk.
o Type1inst - Aids in maintaining Ghostscript Fontmaps and X11 fonts.dir files.
Port of pMARS using the Simple Directmedia Library. Currently the port
is in beta testing stage testing and bug reports/feature requests are
more than welcome.
Features/fixes:
* Environment sensitive. Now looks for macro files in the directory
specified by the environment variable PMARSHOME if they are not
found in the current directory.
* Both Win32 and X11 supported.
* Command line history using Shift-Up and Shift-Down keys.
* Rewrote text display and screen update routines for faster text
panels (for slow computers like mine.)
* BIG core cells for those tiny cores. (Choose a display mode larger
than 2, e.g. -v 134.)
ImageMagick is a package for display and interactive manipulation of
images. The package includes tools for image conversion, annotation,
compositing, animation, and creating montages. ImageMagick can read and
write many of the more popular image formats (e.g. JPEG, TIFF, PNM, XPM,
Photo CD, etc.).
The package can be built _without_ the GUI (X11) support at all -- it
will not have the display, import, and animate functionality, but remain
extremely useful for image manipulation.
The optional "display" utility conflicts with the utility of the
same name from the misc/display port/package.
