TkDVD is a GUI to dvd+rw-tools and cdrecord. It allows burnning CDs and DVDs easily. PEAR Log framework provides an abstracted logging system. It supports logging to console, file, syslog, SQL, Sqlite, mail and mcal targets. It also provides a subject - observer mechanism.

Toshctl is a command-line tool to allow access to much of the Toshiba hardware interface developed by Jonathan Buzzard and Linux toshset by Charles D. Schwieters. It can do things linke set the LCD brightness, set CPU speed and set fan speed.

tren is a general purpose file and directory renaming tool. Unlike commands like mv, tren is particularly well suited for renaming batches of files and/or directories with a single command line invocation. tren eliminates the tedium of having to script simpler tools to provide higher-level renaming capabilities.

task spooler is a Unix batch system where the tasks spooled run one after the other. Each user in each system has his own job queue. The tasks are run in the correct context (that of enqueue) from any shell/process, and its output/results can be easily watched. It is very useful when you know that your commands depend on a lot of RAM, a lot of disk use, give a lot of output, or for whatever reason it's better not to run them at the same time.

ttyload is a little *NIX utility which is meant to give a color-coded graph of load averages over time.

vcp copies files and directories in a curses interface, and behaves much like cp.

Uniutils consists of five programs for finding out what is in a Unicode file. They are useful when working with Unicode files when one doesn't know the writing system, doesn't have the necessary font, needs to inspect invisible characters, needs to find out whether characters have been combined or in what order they occur, or needs statistics on which characters occur. uniname defaults to printing the character offset of each character, its byte offset, its hex code value, its encoding, the glyph itself, and its name. unidesc reports the character ranges to which different portions of the text belong. It can also be used to identify Unicode encodings (e.g. UTF-16be) flagged by magic numbers. unihist generates a histogram of the characters in its input, which must be encoded in UTF-8 Unicode. ExplicateUTF8 is intended for debugging or for learning about Unicode. It determines and explains the validity of a sequence of bytes as a UTF8 encoding. Unirev is a filter that reverses UTF-8 strings character-by-character (as opposed to byte-by-byte).

The upsdaemon is a simple program to monitor APC-Pro series UPSes. When the power fail, the UpsDaemon it effects shutdown the system.
